Agong hands out awards to 297

KUALA LUMPUR: Yang di-Pertuan Agong Tuanku Mizan Zainal Abidin yesterday conferred awards on 297 people at Istana Negara in conjunction with his birthday on June 2. Heading the list was national squash queen and world number one women's squash player Datuk Nicol Ann David, 24, who was the sole recipient of the Darjah Bakti award.

It is the nation's highest sporting award and only 10 people have received it since it was introduced in 1975.

"I am so happy. This award motivates me further to scale greater heights and if given the opportunity, I look forward to helping more Malaysians to seek excellence in squash," Nicol said after the investiture.
